Silicone Compression Molding

Silicone compression molding technology is a kind of manufacturing process that heats the silicone material to a certain temperature and then presses it into the desired shape through the mold. The silicone material becomes soft after heating and can be pressed into the desired shape by the pressure of the mold. The principle of silicone molding technology is similar to rubber molding technology, but the hardness and elasticity of silicone materials are better than that of rubber, so silicone molding technology can produce more fine products.

Compression molding is one of the most common molding methods for silicone. It's usually applied to make a variety of simple shapes of silicone products, such as sealing rings, waterproof rings, and so on. The compression molding process is simple, low-cost, and suitable for the production of small batches of silicone products. In our daily lives, there are numerous silicone products compressed by mold, such as silicone the phone case, silicone sealing ring, etc.

Additionally, CN Mould, as a professional manufacturer, offers custom made silicone molds to meet your specific design and production requirements.

Process of Silicone Compression Molding

1

Preparation of Silicone: Mix the raw material silicone with curing agents.

2

Preparation of Molds: The molds required for molding usually include upper mold, lower mold, ejector pins, etc.

3

Molding: Put the silicone raw material into the mold and use the molding machine to make the silicone fill the mold with sufficient materials.

4

Hardening: The silicone after molding is hardened in the mold; the time and temperature are determined by the specific production based on the requirements of the products.

5

Demolding: After curing, use tools to assist in removing the silicone product from the mold. Remove the mold.

Features of Silicone Compression Molding

1. Easy to make products with regular and beautiful shape.

2. Color can be adjusted freely. The products can be mixed with two colors or even more colors.

3. Cost-effective and high productivity due to easy operation of the machine.

4. Sustainability. Raw materials can be saved due to the recycle of silicone.

FAQ of Silicone Compression Molding

What Is The Difference Between Silicone Compression Molding And LSR Molding?

Material:

Silicone compression molding: Uses pre-formed silicone sheets or rubber compounds.

LSR molding: Uses two-part liquid silicone that mixes and cures within the mold.

Process:

Silicone compression molding:

    * Heated mold closes, compressing the pre-shaped silicone against a core.

    * Heat and pressure cure the silicone.

    * Excess material is trimmed after molding.

LSR molding:

    * Liquid silicone is injected into a heated mold at low pressure.

    * Heat cures the silicone within the mold.

    * No trimming required as the entire material cures inside.

Applications:

Silicone compression molding: Gaskets, seals, diaphragms, o-rings, simple molded parts with limited complexity.

How about the working temperature of silicone?

Silicone owns outstanding performance of high temperature resistance. Its working temperature is -60 ° C to 250 ° C.
