Standardizing materials and components, lowering part counts, planning for efficient assembly, streamlining and minimizing the number of manufacturing activities, and developing modular assemblies are all aspects of design for production. Selection and evaluation of raw materials, consideration of any secondary processes, dimensions and other requirements, and final packaging are all parts of the design for manufacturing process.
With more than 20 years experience of design for manufacturing, we have summarized several design skills in practical design:
Reduce the number of parts. Keep it simple.
Use CAE software in the DVT stage to analyze and correct the design.
Modular design concept. It is best to form our own standardized modules.
Avoid over-design, which is the best way to save costs.
Try to use standard parts and raw materials available on the market.
Take the assembly process, processes and techniques into consideration during the overall product design stage. For any questions, communicate with the production department in time.
On the premise that the function is satisfied, the tolerance requirements are relaxed as much as possible, and the tolerance analysis of key components is performed.
Design in strict accordance with the design Check List. Individuals may make mistakes, while files don't.
1. Product design review
Review the product design before the mold design to ensure that the product design meets the manufacturing requirements and the feasibility of the mold design.
2. Mold design review
Review the mold design scheme including mold structure, material selection, processing technology, etc., to ensure the feasibility and optimization of the design scheme.
3. Mold manufacturability evaluation
Carry out manufacturability evaluation of mold design, including the evaluation of mold processing technology, process equipment, process capability, etc., to ensure that the mold manufacturing process is feasible and efficient.
4. Mold assembly analysis
Analyze the assembly process of the mold, evaluate the assembly difficulty and assembly process of the mold, so as to ensure the smooth assembly process of the mold.
5. Mold testing
According to the mold design scheme, the mold should be tested to verify the manufacturing effect and quality of the mold. Optimize and improve the mold accordingly.
6. Preparation of mold production documents
According to the mold design scheme, trial production and debugging results, prepare mold production documents including parts drawings, process documents, assembly documents, etc., to provide basis for mass production of molds.
